A new year....

Belated Happy New Year!

Wow, it was a busy couple of months at the end of last year, and one of the things that suffered was my ability to post here. As much as I'd like to make a resolution to post more regularly, maybe I'll just say that I hope to get back here before cobwebs are seen hanging off the edges. :-)

Resolutions -- I used to make all kinds of promises (often just to be a part of the crowd, knowing fully well that there'd be no way I could achieve them), and lo and behold, shock of shocks, would usually never see them come to fruition. So these days I am a little more reserved about making these bold statements, preferring instead to understand the reality in advance. If I were to make a resolution or two that I thought slightly possible, what would they be I wonder?

There are some things that I know can not happen overnight, but I am willing to work on them all the same:

1. Get my weight down a little (read EXERCISE and GOOD FOOD here) -- That is definitely something on my mind given the fact that I am only 2 birthdays away from 50 (YIKES!!), and the more frequent thoughts about one's own mortality.

2. Be more positive. It is easy in times like we find ourselves to see the negative ahead of the positive. All that negative thoughts do for me is drag me down and then that impacts on the thought above, so it's then definitely BAD!

There are some other things that I know I can probably improve upon. Looking at my study room where I'm typing this entry, becoming a more tidy person should probably be added to the list. Maybe after I finish here I'll grab a trash bag and get rid of all those offcasts accummulated during the frenzy of the end of semester paper writing. In the end it was really worth those couple of all nighters when I would come home from work at 1am and work through till 10am, grab a few hours sleep and head back to work at 2pm. That helped me get 2 A's for the semester, which was a morale booster given the feelings of inadequacy that flow around in my head during times of writing.

Speaking of semesters, the new one starts in a week, and then it'll be head down and bum up as I try to get through two more classes on my way toward the end of my Masters program at Boise State University. The really cool thing about this Masters program is that it is conducted totally online, so when the local students going to Uni here have to make their way through the snow, ice and traffic, I can sit in the comfort of my home and study away. Oh, and I can have a coffee break anytime I like. That's got to be a plus straight off. Actually, all jokes aside, I have really enjoyed the classes I've taken through Boise State. I also have to say how impressed I am with their level of support, not only academically, but also with other services I've needed over the time. Their level of commitment to following up is something I've not experienced at other Universities here, especially the local one (better not name it, but any locals reading this will know). Great job Boise!

Well...enough for now...time to clean up and start on my way to a longer and healthier life.

Cheers!!

See my photos at Flickr

I've created an account at flickr now and am beginning to upload some of my photos. flickr is a great service, free of charge for the basic file storage and retrieval (paid accounts are available for all the bells and whistles), and I'll be using it to supply the images you'll see here from time to time.
